Melena – 1998 non purebred mare, Astrachan x Mirija. Melly was sold to Sue Sally Hale, a pioneering woman polo player (she played as a man before women were allowed to play!), but only got to play practice matches. Sue Sally passed away before they got to a real polo match. Melly was willed to a friend of Sue Sally’s, who rode her in many California jumper shows over the years. Melly was called ‘the sportscar’ for her fast jump off rounds.
